Gift YOUR Clients This Summer

Gifting Your Top Clients: A Simple Retention Strategy That Works

One thing I do every summer is send gifts to my top clients.

Not because they asked. Not because there is a holiday. Not because I am trying to make an immediate sale.

I do it because client relationships matter, and thoughtful gifting is one of the best ways to stay connected in a way that feels personal, polished, and memorable.

I hardly ever lose my top clients year over year, and I truly believe this is one of the reasons why.

Put Your Best Foot Forward

When you are gifting your own clients, be strategic.

This is not the time to send the cheapest option or whatever you have extra of in the shop. This is your chance to showcase your taste, your quality, your presentation, and the level of service you are capable of providing.

The gift you send says something about your business.

If you want clients to trust you with their gifting, show them what you can do.

Think About the Season

For my top clients this summer, I sent a high-end lunch tote with matching sparkling waters and popcorn.

It was simple, but it made sense for the season. It felt fresh, useful, and fun without being overdone. The lunch tote was a keepsake product they could use again, and the sparkling waters and popcorn made it feel like a perfect little summer snack.

That is the sweet spot. A gift does not have to be complicated to be impressive. It just needs to feel thoughtful and well put together.

Create Levels for Different Clients

Not every client needs to receive the exact same gift.

For my next level of clients, I had small branded mailer boxes made and sent a cookie with lemonade mix. It was still thoughtful, still branded, and still seasonal, but at a different price point.

This is a great way to stay in front of more clients without overspending.

You can create a simple gifting plan like:

Top clients: higher-end gift with a reusable item
Warm clients: smaller seasonal gift
Past clients: handwritten card or small branded mailer
Prospects: simple “thinking of you” gift or sample

The goal is not to spend the same amount on everyone. The goal is to stay intentional.

Use Your Own Gifting as a Sales Tool

When you send a beautiful gift to your own clients, you are not just saying thank you. You are showing them what it looks like to work with you.

They see the packaging.
They see the product quality.
They see the message card.
They see how the gift feels when it arrives.

That matters.

A well-done client gift can lead to repeat orders, referrals, corporate gift sends, holiday orders, and conversations that may not have happened otherwise.

Something You Can Do This Week

Look at your customer list and choose a small group of clients you want to stay connected with before the holiday season.

Start with your best clients, repeat buyers, corporate clients, real estate agents, referral partners, or anyone who has the potential to order again.

Then decide on one simple summer gift idea that feels like your brand.

It does not have to be big. It just needs to be thoughtful, well presented, and easy to remember.

Final Thought

Your best clients are worth keeping close.

A thoughtful gift can remind them why they chose you in the first place, while also showing them the kind of gifting experience you can create for their own clients, employees, and referral partners.

Gift well, and your clients will remember you.
